Message from our President ...

Last season was somewhat of a mixed season once again, not helped by the loss of several players. However both sections managed to get to the respective plate finals, where unfortunately both were unsuccessful – just results as neither team played as good hockey as their opponents. However just getting there was an achievement.

Also worthy of mention are the performances of the two veteran sides with the ladies coming fourth and the men second in their respective tournaments in Wrexham

With the world Football cup just completed, I wondered how that game might be improved by the introduction of some Hockey rules:

Yellow card meaning 10 minutes in the “sin bin”...
Advancing play by 10 metres for dissent...
Abandon the strange “added minutes”...
Why don’t they stop the clock when play stops...
Dispense with Off-side...

I was very sceptical when off-side was abandoned in Hockey a few years ago and it took me a couple of months to see the benefits, which I now feel are very real. I am still wondering about the introduction last season of playing free hits to yourself. Maybe I shall soon appreciate the advantages.

I should like to wish all players and teams an enjoyable and successful season. I don’t think you will be too troubled by Vuvuzelas!

See you all soon. Here's to a successful season ...
