Bridgend 1st XI 4-4 Marlborough
Tom Pearce 2
Bridgend found themselves two goals down quickly through their own mistakes, the deficit would have been worse were it not for captain Adrian Hibbert saving a penalty stroke. This inspired Bridgend and a change in formation allowed them to push forward with Tim Hodges crossing to Tom Pearce for the finish. Bridgend conceded from a short corner against the run of play, but quickly pulled a goal back through stone cold John Woodward driving around three defenders before crossing for Tom Pearce’s second. Industrious wingers Paul Jones and Mike Hodges kept pushing forwards whilst Tom Pearce worked tirelessly, a cross found its way to Jason Arnold on the back post who neatly netted from close range. The deficit pinned back. It was 3-3 at half time.
The second half saw Bridgend concede through a fluke deflection however very little else troubled the defence, with Matt Wooster mopping up anything in his vicinity. Bridgend evened off the game as Rhydian Cole made a decoy run allowing Tim Hodges to convert from close range. Bridgend had numerous chances to win the game in a second half which saw them have the lions share of possession. However it was not to be today. A great fight back to achieve a point from a significant deficit, but also two points dropped.
Bridgend ladies 1s 2 – 3 Cardiff Uni
Scorer Jaz Gamble
The game started in Cardiff Uni’s favour and they scored the first goal. Bridgend had a few chances but unfortunately it was the university side who scored the second goal before half time.
In the second half Bridgend stepped up theirs defence and keeper Pat Richards made some great saves. Bridgend had a few good breaks which resulted in shots on goal, with Jaz Gamble putting 2 goals in to make the game even. Cardiff Uni had a goal disallowed but fought back well and scored again before the full time whistle, making it 3-2 to Cardiff Uni.
Bridgend Mens A 2 – 4 Wotton-Under-Edge A
Bridgend started the stronger side, quickly putting the home team under pressure. Playing the better hockey, Bridgend were soon rewarded for their efforts with Steve Murphy slotting home to put the away side in the lead.
Wotton seemed to rocked by the visitors goal and Bridgend took advantage with Andrew Jones increasing the visitors lead. Wotton seemed to be out of the game, but were handed a lifeline when they capitalised on a rare opportunity to attack the visitors goal, which was fortunate to find the back of the net. This seemed to lift the home team and they began to play as a much more cohesive unit. They were soon rewarded for their more positive play, ending the first half 2-2.
Bridgend came out in the second half fighting. However, the opportunities for attack were reduced as Wotton looked to play a more organised game. With the momentum shifting to the home team, Wotton scored. This knocked Bridgend’s resolve and as the game became more fragmented, it would be Wotton who would score again ending Bridgend’s hopes of gaining their first points.
With a final score of 4-2, Bridgend look to an away trip to Whitchurch C to turn their fortunes around.
U13 girls travelled to Ystradgynlais, this morning all of us thinking we would get rather wet!! but the weather brighten as the girls started to play. With a few new players and also girls moving up from the U11 this season it took time to gel but they all stuck at it and by the end of the morning we had more goals scored for than against. Well done all see you in training!!
