Mens 1s
Bridgend played well in a fast paced game, having the lions share of possession. Some tight marking and well placed passes allowed the home team to convert one of their opportunities into a goal after Michael Hodges dispossessed a Swansea defender and crossed the ball to the far post where Steve Murphy was waiting to tap the ball in. Bridgend remained the dominant force retaining possession for large portions of the game, but fortune did not favour them. Bridgend conceded two penalty strokes just before half time. The second half was more of the same, Bridgend lost out in small margins and did not receive the short corners they deserved. Thunderous tackling from John Woodward left it’s mark on the Swansea team, but was not enough to win Bridgend the game.

Ladies 2s

Bridgend Ladies 2nds 6 – Cardiff Uni 6ths 1 Bridgend signalled their attacking intent from the off with Jo Poupon scoring her first within about 5 mins but despite several other chances there was quite a wait for the second goal which was a scorcher from Eve Mordecai before half time, the half time score of 2-0 to Bridgend was definitely not a fair reflection of the pressure and possession that Bridgend had applied. This wrong was righted in the second half as stunning further goals from Jo and Eve were added to by quality strikes from Michelle Hancock and Angharad Kitchener. Bridgend’s defence was also tested at times and Cardiff clawed one back but all in all a very strong team performance from Bridgend ensured the clear win. Player of the match was Liz (EJ) Pearce.
