Bridgend 1-1 Devizes
Scorer David Knight
Bridgend made the lengthy journey down the m4, wanting to end their dismal run of results. Bridgend started strongly, with Michael Hodges impressive on the right. An early short corner for Bridgend came agonisingly close to taking the lead from Rhys Owen’s shot. Bridgend although in the driving seat can feel aggrieved at conceding against the run of play, putting themselves on the back foot. Despite this the visitors fought back, Tom Pearce coming close at the far post, having been played in by Rhydian Cole. Rob Evans and Kris Holyoake proved troublesome alternating in the midfield, breaking up play and moving into the opposing 25. An attacking short corner for Bridgend allowed Rhys Owen to draw the goal keeper for David Knight to slot into the empty net.
The second half saw Devizes increasingly frustrated by Bridgend start to throw in some unsavoury challenges, which Bridgend did well to rise above. Where Bridgend did not succeed was in getting a well deserved second goal. David Knight came close flashing the ball across the front of the goal only inches from Rhodri Owen. The closing stages of the game were marked with controversy as Bridgend were reduced to 10 men following a dubious clash. This lead to a penalty stroke for Devizes also. In a do or die moment Bridgend’s goalkeeper Adam Hawas leaped down to his right saving the shot. Bridgend drew inspiration from this with Matt Wooster managing to pick the ball off every attacker who dared enter the ‘D’, his enforcer John Woodward protecting the goal also. The attitude of the team ensured Bridgend held off Devizes to retrieve a well deserved point from the game.
Bridgend ladies 1s 3 – 1 Milford haven.
Scorers Jo Poupon, Eve Mordecai, Tania Harrison
Bridgend started well keeping possession and passing the ball between them. Milford pushed forward and managed to gain possession and found a way around the keeper to score the first goal. This spurred Bridgend on and after some good play between Lou and Tania helped Jo find the back of the net to equalise to make a level playing field going into the second half.
After a good team talk bridgend found some new determination to keep possession of the ball. Some accurate passing around midfield allowed Tania to get the ball to Lou in the D who’s shot on goal was made certain by Eve. Motivated by another goal the home team continued this positive momentum which resulted in a third and final goal from Tania to secure a 3-1 win. A great team performance to carry into next week.
